Training:
Prof David Burke is a Consultant Cardiologist and Director of Cardiology at the Beacon Hospital. He is the Director of the Beacon Hospital Research Institute, which serves to advance and improve patient care and outcomes through cutting edge clinical trials and studies in partnership with academic and industry partners. He is Director of Medical Education at the Beacon UCD Academy, and is also a Professor of Medicine at University College Dublin.
He specialises in cardiac screening and prevention, cardiac imaging including CT coronary angiography, and interventional cardiology including coronary stenting. He gained extensive experience performing transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVI), and was a co-investigator on the US CoreValve Pivotal Trial which led to FDA approval of one of the most widely used valve devices.
Research interests currently focus on connected health and wearable technology, and using biometric data as part of detection and management of chronic illnesses.
David graduated from UCD in 2002 and obtained MRCPI in 2005. He completed the Irish Cardiology Specialist Registrar training scheme and completed a Masters in Cardiology at Trinity College. He trained at the Harvard Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Centre in Boston with sub-specialty interventional and structural cardiology fellowships, and completed a research fellowship at the Harvard Clinical Research Institute. He was also Associate Director of the Harvard Angiographic Core Laboratory.
