Mr Afzaal Mughal

After graduating in 2009, Mr Mughal specialised in general surgery. Mr Mughal completed surgical training in general and colorectal surgery in Ireland. He then finished specialist colorectal training in St James’s Hospital Dublin.

He became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Ireland in 2021, and a fellow of the European Board of Surgery in Coloproctology in 2022.

Mr Afzaal Amin Mughal is a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon.

He is a specialist colorectal surgeon with comprehensive training in general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgery. Mr Mughal’s main areas of interest are bowel cancer, hernia surgery, haemorrhoid treatment and surgical treatment of bowel disorders.

Before joining Beacon Hospital, Mr Mughal worked as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon in Saint James’s Hospital Dublin for one year.

Mr Mughal specialises in emergency and elective general surgery including laparoscopic gallbladder surgery. He also has a special interest in complex abdominal wall hernia surgery and laparoscopic incisional and inguinal hernia surgery. Mr Mughal’s other areas of interest include minimally invasive colonic surgery, acute and complicated diverticular disease management, advanced endometriosis involving bowels, colo-proctology; management of haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula and colonoscopy; bowel cancer screening and Diagnostic and Therapeutic endoscopy.
