Dr Lyons earned her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2014. She completed her internal medicine residency at the University of Vermont in 2017, followed by a rheumatology fellowship at the same institution in 2019. Dr Lyons holds double board certification from the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and rheumatology, reflecting her extensive training and expertise. Experience
Following her specialist training, Dr Lyons worked as a Consultant Rheumatologist at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) in Alaska, USA, for 5 years. During this time, she was one of the few rheumatologists in the state, where she provided comprehensive rheumatologic care for a wide range of rheumatologic conditions. Her commitment to patient care extended beyond urban settings, as she actively traveled to rural areas to deliver essential rheumatologic services to underserved populations. Dr Lyons also founded the Rheumatology Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Clinic during her tenure at ANTHC, further demonstrating her dedication to advancing rheumatologic care.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Lyons has published several original research articles and presented at scientific meetings during her 15 years of post-secondary education and training. She has also played a significant role in education by regularly mentoring medical students and residents throughout her career. As a Fellow of the ACR, Dr Lyons served on the Global Engagement Committee, where she facilitated strategic and collaborative initiatives between the ACR and international rheumatology societies.
